Two leading companies in Maine’s composite industry, Harbor Technologies, Inc. and US Windblade LLC, have each been awarded seed grants by the Maine Technology Institute (MTI).
“Maine’s composite industry is leading the way in the use of innovative technologies for new opportunities in the emerging green economy,” said Stephen Von Vogt, Executive Director of the Maine Composites Alliance.
“The Maine Composite Alliance is focused on developing opportunities and technology in pollution control and alternative energy. These two companies reflect the growing use of composites in each of those areas.”
Harbor Technologies, Inc. (HTI), a provider of innovative and cost-effective composite solutions to the marine infrastructure market, has been awarded a $12,500 MTI Seed Grant to develop and build a next-generation, composite waste pump-out station and service barge.
The MTI funding helps establish a sustainable business model for
routine service and maintenance of the composite pump-out stations in

US Windblade, a Bath-based designer and manufacturer of highly efficient and cost competitive blades for the small wind turbine market, received an $11,805 MTI Seed Grant to develop alternative surface coating for wind turbine blades.
The Bath-based company will develop a process that uses laminating resin for windblade surface coating, eliminating the conventional windblade gel coat process. The new resin process provides reduced manufacturing costs, improved durability and elimination of toxic gases as part of the coating process. Find out more about US Windblade at www.uswindblade.com
